Grounded

"God, hear my cry; pay attention to my prayer. I call to you from the ends of the earth when my heart is without strength. Lead me to a rock that is high above me." ~ Psalms 61:1-2

You can't control every part of your life and business. Some days are going to be harder than others. But you do have control over how you react to those situations.

One thing that keeps me grounded is my faith.

I know many people may not bring up religion in their business but for me it's more about connecting with others to know you are not alone.

When I become overwhelmed, I like to journal and write down everything I am grateful for. It reminds me of how far I have come and how determined I am to push through. Also unplugging and enjoying nature brings me peace. We all need a way to break away from all the noise.

By implementing a few checkpoints throughout each day, you can get yourself on the path to not being overwhelmed and stressed. For me, during a work day or being at the computer all day, I set a timer to remind myself to get up, move around, and drink my water. When it’s a more difficult day, I will add in a workout during the lunch break, or go for a walk around the block.

Something I have also started to implement is ensuring I do something that is soothing for the soul. Disconnecting from technology, taking a bath, read a physical novel (for fun not development or growth), taking time with friends or family (albeit via video right now), praying or meditating on scripture – these are all ways I have been able to improve my mental and emotional health during this year.

If it weren’t for 2020 and all of the changes we’ve felt this year, I probably wouldn’t have sat down and implemented these items into my routine. As you continue to figure out what works for you, try something new.

Ask yourself, what brings you joy? When you feel overwhelmed or stressed, what helps you through it? Do you have a good support system? Do you give yourself a break? Do you write down what makes you happy? Let me know in the comments below.
